[Age Switch] For Walter

Peter was right.

Saying everything out loud to Doctor Walter was scary and she couldn't stop crying, but she had to tell him the truth because maybe he could change it. Maybe he could make her step-dad stop hitting her and then she could do all the things Doctor Walter wanted her to do, especially going to the other universe. But she had to make him believe her, so she gave him her book and she told him about the blimps and when she went to the other universe, and she could feel her throat burning the way it always did when she knew she was going to cry. Most of the time she made herself stop because it only made her step-dad angrier, but she knew Doctor Walter would understand.

Sometimes he was strange and sometimes he made her frustrated and angry with his experiments but he was kind, and he cared about her and he had to make things right.

"Can you make him stop hitting me?"

He just had to.

"Please."

But he didn't say anything at first, and just when Olivia was beginning to think he wouldn't promise to help her, she heard it, she heard him. His voice came from behind her and his mouth didn't move and at first she thought it was a trick, but if what if she wasn't in her own universe but the other one, and--

--and she woke up with a gasp, legs kicking as she jerked in her bed. The covers had tangled around her legs overnight and she wasn't in her jacket or her jeans but in pajama pants and a t-shirt and she didn't recognize the room she was in or the beds or the walls or anything.

Did something else happen? Maybe she jumped to the other universe again, but if she had been there already, and she hadn't gone back home, where was she?

Kicking the sheets off, Olivia got out of the bed and approached the curtains that acted like a door cautiously, peeking out to see where she was. It was just a hallway, with other rooms like hers and down at the end of it looked like the play room at the daycare center, only for grown ups. The floor was cold and she was in a gray t-shirt with a name she didn't recognize and she was scared and kinda groggy like she'd been asleep, except she knew she wasn't. Maybe she passed out, and they took her to a hospital, or something.

At least she wasn't crying anymore, even if she had to swallow back some more tears along with her rising panic.

Deciding she was just going to have look around and figure out where Miss Ashley or Doctor Walter were, Olivia made her way down the hall. There were other people, she could see, but nobody paid her much attention and she didn't recognize them. There was music playing and a book shelf that caugh her attention as she quickly made her way out of the room and into another hallway.

She felt like she was having some strange nightmare, but when a kid running down the hall bumped into her, she could feel the sting of her elbow when it collided with the wall.

The tears came right back, and Olivia was wiping them away when she went into the first room she could find. It looked like some kind of lab, like the ones they had in high schools on TV with all the glass bottles and a white lab coat hanging in a corner.

Maybe someone here knew Doctor Walter and could tell her what happened.
